Superintendent Update, April 1

April 1, 2020

Staff, Students and Parents,

Governor DeWine has extended the school closure order through May 1, 2020.  We will keep you posted if there are any new developments.  Below is a summary of our school calendar.

  • March 30 – April 9, Digital Learning Days #7-15.
  • April 10 – April 13, Easter Break.
  • April 14 – May 1, Digital Learning Days #16-29.
  • May 4, return to normal schedule. Subject to change
  1. The Board of Education office is open with limited services during business hours Monday through Friday.
  2. The school building is open to teachers and staff for business purposes only.  Principals and teachers are available by email during regular school hours. Principals and teachers may work from home or school.
  3. The school building is closed to parents and students except by appointment with a principal or teacher.
  4. Students and staff who have District issued Chrome Book problems should contact the Tech Department directly by emailing tom.vallance@wheelersburg.net
  5. The Ohio High School Athletic Association in support of Ohio’s school closure order has issued a mandatory no contact period for all sports through May 1.  This means all sport/team activities are suspended including: practices, training, conditioning, weight lifting, games, and scrimmages.  Coaches are only allowed to communicate with student-athletes to check on their well-being and health.  For further information please check the OHSAA website or email Athletic Directors Jarod Shaw and Brent Eaton.
  6. The Food Service Department, Transportation Department and many volunteers are delivering free student meals to multiple locations around the school district during the closure.  Their efforts have been amazing and I’m grateful for each one of them.  Please check our website for meal delivery times and locations.
  7. I’m sure you are wondering about all of the amazing activities and events scheduled for this spring.  I ask for your patience.  The District will make announcements as soon as possible in consultation with the Governor’s Office, Ohio Department of Education, the Ohio Department of Health and the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

Please contact the Board Office at 740-574-8484 or any building principal if you have questions or need assistance during this school closure.

This is a tough time for all of us. I understand the pressures and anxieties for our students, staff and parents.  We must remember first and foremost to be safe.  We must practice social distancing, washing our hands and staying home as much as possible. We are all in this together and we will get through this together!

Stay healthy!  Think positively!

State Board of Education Recognizes WHS
Wheelersburg High School has been recognized by the State Board of Education and the Ohio Department of Education as a recipient of the 2019 Momentum Award.  The Momentum Award recognizes schools for exceeding expectations in student growth for the year. Schools must earn straight A’s on all Value-Added measures on the report card. The school or district must have at least two Value-Added subgroups of students, which includes gifted, lowest 20% in achievement, and students with disabilities.

Wheelersburg High School Principal Chris Porter stated, “There are a total of 48 districts and 173 schools recognized this year.  This is another example of the hard work and attention to detail that our teachers, students and staff are putting in on a daily basis.  It is also confirmation that our teachers and staff are focusing on the right improvement practices.  Thank you to everyone for helping make this award a reality for our school.  Congratulations!”

Important: Use OneView to update Student Information
Reminder to Parents -- Use the online Oneview Program to update your address and phone number changes.

Also, please use the OneView system to update your child's health records.  Have you taken your child to their physician lately?  Were prescriptions changed for your child? If yes, update their records on OneView.

This way the school will always have the most current information concerning your child. This is important.

Lastly, please remember to update your free and reduced lunch application or apply for free and reduced lunches if your income has changed or the number in your household has changed.

For more information, call  740-574-2527 or 740-574-8130 and ask for the guidance department.
