At its March 28, 2016 meeting, the Wheelersburg Board of Education recognized the American Legion Government Test State Winners, the Girls' Basketball Team, the Boys' Basketball Team and the High School Cheer Block.
58,000 total students across the country took the American Legion Americanism test earlier in the year. Ohio had eighteen state winners, three of which were Wheelersburg students, which were Faith Howard, Jacob Coy, and Tait Nelson. State winners won a trip to Washington D.C. Jacob Coy was also selected to participate in the laying of the wreath at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
The Girls' Basketball Team was recognized as SOC Division II Champions and had a 20-5 record this year. Coach Dusty Spradlin was selected as SOC II Co-Coach of the Year. Senior, Sydney Holden was SOC II Co-Player of the Year, Division III District 14 Player of the Year, North/South Representative for District 14 and Special Mention All-Ohio. Sydney will be attending Rio Grande University next fall. Sydney also scored her 1000th point this season. Sophomore, Ellie Ruby was selected SOC II Defensive Player of the Year.
From the Boys' Basketball Team, Kyle Davis was recognized for being selected as SOC II Co-Defensive Player of the Year and Honorable Mention All-Ohio.
The Wheelersburg Cheer Block was selected as a finalist for the OHSAA Golden Megaphone award. Representing the Cheer Block were Mitchell McFarland, Jordan Howard, Clayton Nickell, and Ethan McCain.
