Boys’ Basketball February 17 is canceled.
 
American Legion Winners
Juniors Carson McCorkle, Sophia Hagans, and Sophomore Rohit Kataria are State Winners in the American Legion Americanism and Government Test. The test was given to over 55,000 sophomores, juniors, and seniors throughout the state of Ohio. Only 18 students are State Winners, 3 boys and 3 girls from each class. As State Winners Carson, Sophia, and Rohit have won a free trip sponsored by the American Legion to Washington DC, Gettysburg, and the Flight 93 Memorial March 5-9, 2018. Seniors Jacob Lewis and Alexandria Montavon and Sophomore Haylie Vaughn were County Winners. Haylie was also a District Winner and came in 4th in the State. Congratulations to all of these students!    
Rio Grande Art Show
Five Wheelersburg High fine arts students had work accepted into the 6th Annual University of Rio Grande High School Juried Art Exhibit. Emily Phipps had two pieces accepted. Allison Mullins, Allison McKenzie, Chase Greco, and Annie Davis all had one piece accepted into the show. This is a big honor and accomplishment for these students. There is a reception and awards ceremony on February 22, 5-7 PM at Greer Museum on the campus of the University of Rio Grande. This is free and open to the public. Congratulations!! 
Honor Band at Ohio University
Congratulations to Will Gilbert and Gus Shoemaker. They have been selected to perform in the District 17 Honor Band Concert at Ohio University during the weekend of March 16 &17.
Congratulations to Will Gilbert for being selected to perform in the Ohio University Clarinet Gala hosted by Ohio University and Illinois State University on March 24th at Ohio University.  This is a very select group with only 10-20 clarinetists chosen from high schools and colleges in our region. Congratulations!!
 
Blood Drive
Right now, the American Red Cross has a critical need for eligible blood donors. In addition to unfavorable weather, seasonal flu has contributed to a very low donor turnout at many blood drives. Donations are critically needed in the coming days so that patients can continue to receive lifesaving treatments. WHS will host the next blood drive on Wednesday, February 28, 8 AM to 1:30 PM. Please sign up to donate blood with one of the following people: Ms. Bell, Mrs. Arbogast, Mr. McFadden, Mrs. Oppy, Mrs. Lowery, and Mr. Lovenguth. Students who are 16 years old must get a parent permission slip from Ms. Bell or Mrs. Arbogast.
 
Presale Tickets
Presale tickets for Saturday's girls' basketball Sectional Final vs Leesburg Fairfield at Valley HS are available in the Wheelersburg HS office.  Tip off is at 2:45 PM. Presale tickets for the boys' basketball sectional final at Jackson HS on Friday, February 23rd are also available. Tip off will be at 8:30 PM vs the winner of the Ironton/Minford sectional semi-final matchup. Tickets are $5 in advance. The school receives 25% of all presale proceeds.

Swim Team District Qualifiers
Eli Bowen qualified in the 100 butterfly, the 200 free relay, and the 400 free relay. Jason Nham qualified in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 free relay. Drew Jackson qualified in the 400 free relay. Baley Derifield and Eric Green qualified in the 200 and 400 free relays.   
Ohio State University Student Life Disability Services
Student Life Disability Services at Ohio State University will host College Day 2018 on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. The event will be held in the Ohio Union, which is located at 1739 N. High St. Columbus, Ohio. Registration for College Day is required and seating is limited, so please submit your registration form by Friday, March 2, 2018. Wheelersburg Weightlifting
Wheelersburg won the Piketon weightlifting meet. Lifters who placed in their weight class include Drake Foster, Mason Johnson, Kevin Meadows, Jeremiah Dempsey, Avery Donini, Brandon Knauff, Chase Stidham, Taden Atkins, Kaleb Johnson, Chase Greco, Uriah Wilburn, Seth Denney, Blake Richardson, Hunter Ruby, and Daegan Glover.  
ACT Test Prep
Shawnee State University is sponsoring a 5-part ACT test prep series at a cost of $150 and includes The REAL ACT Prep Guide with a CD. Individual subjects are $50.00 each (guide not included). Classes are held from 6:00-8:30 pm. Location will be provided in your confirmation email or letter. Register in person, by mail, or phone. Payment must be recieved no latter than March 9th, 2018. Click here for information on registering.
     
Boys' Basketball Schedule Change
The Freshmen basketball game on Monday, February 12th vs Western will tip off at 6:30 PM. The boys' basketball game vs. Jackson has been rescheduled for February 17. The freshman boys basketball game vs Russell will be rescheduled at a later date.
 
Ohio University ACT Prep Course
Ohio University will be offering an ACT Prep course for the upcoming February 10th ACT test. More information, including how to register, can be found here. 
Quiz Bowl Ceremony
The 2017-2018 Quiz Bowl Team was the runner-up in the league. The first and second place teams were awarded a trophy after league play. Sharee Price, our county's talented and gifted coordinator, presented the trophy at the awards ceremony.  Click to view a video of the ceremony.   
Student Council Sponsors Coat Drive
The Wheelersburg Student Council sponsored a coat drive December 7th - 20th for residents of The Counseling Center, Inc.  Students made flyers and set up drop boxes throughout the school. Donations were accepted from all three buildings. The coat drive brought in over 100 coats. The coats will help new clients and their children stay warm through the winter season.

Key Club
  Key Club members participated in the annual Santa in the Park and rang the bells for the Salvation Army.         
Boys' Basketball
The boys' basketball game scheduled for December 8th has been rescheduled to Tuesday, January 23rd. JV will play at 6 p.m. The game will be held at Minford.  
Veterans' Day Door Decorating Contest
NHS sponsored a door decorating contest in honor of Veterans' Day. Congratulations to Mrs. Oppy's class for winning. See pictures of all the doors on the right side of the High School web page.  
Peer Tutoring
Peer Tutoring will begin the November 7th and will be held every Tuesday and Thursday in Mrs. Oppy's room immediately after school. If any is interested in becoming a tutor, contact Mrs. Oppy. 
Shawnee New Scholarships
There are full-tuition scholarships for Women and African American students pursuing game design at Shawnee State University. Shawnee State has been awarded $240,000 for game arts and game programing. Click here for more information on the scholarships at Shawnee State. 
Bible Club
Weekly Bible Club meetings take place on Thursdays at 7:30 a.m. in the Health Room. Join us for a 10 minute Bible study.
